Rodent Infestation

Rodent Infestation

Finding you have a rodent infestation doesn’t mean that you’re a bad housekeeper or a negligent property owner. Mice, chipmunks, squirrels and other creatures can quietly find ways into your building without your knowledge. This is especially true in the fall and Winter as the temperatures in Gainesville start to get cooler. However, keeping rodents at bay is important both to the integrity of your home AND to the health and well-being of your family.

Signs of a Rodent Infestation

To keep rodents at bay, it’s important to be alert to the signs that mice or other rodents have taken up residence in your home. Just a few of these indications include:

  • One of the most common signs of mice or other rodents is finding droppings in your attic, basement or near food sources. For most small rodents, these droppings look like small brown pellets.
  • Noise in the attic. Rodents commonly burrow behind walls or make nests in attics. You might hear them scurrying about when your house is quiet, notice that your pets are fixated on a seemingly blank wall and/or see gaps in your baseboards.
  • Shredded paper and insulation. Finding shredded newspaper and insulation material in the corners of your home or near the attic or basement is another sign of rodent activity. Critters use these materials to build nests and may discard them near their living quarters.
